About Derek Monkman

Derek completed his Bachelors of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia before going on to complete his Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) in 2013.  His involvement at UBC has continued as a Clinical Skills Assistant, helping instruct in the MPT program.  Derek has since gone on to complete advanced training in orthopaedic assessment and treatment techniques, becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) in 2017. Derek’s treatment approach includes a blend of manual therapy, IMS/Dry Needling, and individualized exercises to help his clients achieve their goals – whether that be returning to sport, or simply returning to day to day activities.  Derek works one on one with his clients and believes that they should not only understand their injury, but also play an active role in creating their rehabilitation plan.  Throughout his career Derek has experience treating musculoskeletal conditions from head to toe, but has a keen interest in lower extremity injuries.
